About
Helen is a songwriter, performer, music tutor and workshop leader based in Calderdale, West Yorkshire. Her instruments are piano, vocals and percussion. As a performer she is best known as pianist and coro singer in the energetic Cuban band Charanga Del Norte, in her sibling duo Calluna Sun, writing original folk/jazz inspired songs, and as Sätteli a cappella Swiss folk duo. She performs and teaches alongside leading UK musicians.
Helen has a busy piano teaching practice welcoming students of all generations and experience. With interests that lie in classical, traditional music, improvisation, Latin and jazz genres, she has directed Brazilian samba groups, workshops and projects, has led choirs and singing workshops including Swiss folk and Georgian polyphonic song. Helen founded Zarebi women’s Georgian choir, which she led for 10 years.
